Membership

The conditions for membership in the ARPSC is dependent on what the individual wishes to be involved in.  ARPSC supports three different areas of activity and the requirements are different for each.

The first area is the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES).  The following link will best describe membership in ARES:

Amateur Radio Emergency Service

The second area is the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES).  Since RACES is administered by FEMA and subsequently in Allegan County thru the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office by Allegan County Emergency Management, a more formal application process must be followed.   Applicants must review the job description and fill out the volunteer application at:

Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service

Applicants are required to pass a background investigation by the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department.   You must be a member of RACES in order to participate in any County sanctioned events.

The third area is Skywarn.  While there is no formal application process you are required to attend Skywarn training at least every other year to remain a current participation.

While being a member of an amateur radio club is not a requirement, Allegan County ARPSC strongly supports local clubs where members are able to continue learning about amateur radio as well as socialize and get to know each other a bit better.   If you are so inclined please contact the appropriate person listed on the contact page for additional information.

The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) is the national fraternal organization for amateur radio and is a great one stop source for amateur radio information of any kind.  Please consider membership in the great organization.   More information may be found at:
